Learn more about the Wetlands, the first Region of planet Tephra.

STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions. Wetlands

Welcome to the Wetlands, Astroneer! This is our starting point for exploring the planet Tephra and uncovering it's many secrets.

THE WETLANDS

The first foothold of the ESS Starseeker on planet Tephra is the Wetlands, a water-logged lowland containing giant vines, a large underground cavern network, rock spires, and a massive whirlpool. Of particular interest is the ESS Elysium wreckage, which contains clues about what led to its unfortunate fate.

AVAILABLE FIELD OPS

The Wetlands host a variety of emergent activities called Field Ops, which can be found scattered across Tephra. Field Ops can be challenging even for the most skilled Astroneer and are much easier to tackle with the help of others. Look for them on your map by locating the icon that looks like a gear with a compass inside it.

Elevation Readings

Activate the Elevation Console and raise the provided EXO Altimeter as high as possible to get clear readings of the local area. Throwing it to squadmates is a good way to make faster progress together. Higher milestones offer greater rewards, granting you Topographic Data that’s useful in crafting Gliders.

Crystal Hunt

Activate the Crystal Analyzer to start the search for Xenocrystals. This will emit a scanning pulse that places them on your compass. The more you gather before the timer runs out, the greater the rewards. You will earn Bytes and Xenocrystal Data, which are useful in crafting Power Mods.

Creature Wrangling

Activate the Tranquilizer Console to provoke nearby creatures into attacking you and any other Astroneers in the affected area. Sedate as many of them as you can within the timer for greater rewards; activating the Console again will sedate all Exhausted creatures in the area. This will reward you with Bytes and Creature Data, which are sellable for more Bytes.

AVAILABLE RESOURCES

Each Region has different Resources; some are even unique to only one Region on the whole planet. The Wetlands allow prospecting Astroneers to find deposits of Bauxite, Clay, and Graphite, in addition to Resin and Compound, which are common to all Regions.

LOCAL CREATURES

Tephra is home to a range of peculiar creatures. Some of it's most notable ones can be found in the Wetlands, but they can also be found in other Regions, so it's good to familiarize yourself with them first.

Carrotlings

A variant species of the Sproutling genus. Though they are generally considered to be non-hostile and even “adorable” by some, these semi-sentient veggiefolk have a cruel nature and are not to be trusted. Carrotlings lack pain receptors or any sense of decency and are known to devour their own kind.

Bog Hounds

Territorial pack-hunting creatures that roam the surface of Tephra. They seem fond of fruit and are protective of their nests and eggs. Few creatures irritate Bog Hounds more than Carrotlings, which are their favored prey, despite the fact that they do not consume Carrotlings for sustenance.

Brutoliths

These creatures are not only ferociously strong, but they’re also frighteningly quick when swept up in the frenzy of one of their mighty charges. Few things are more terrifying than facing a Brutolith head-on. That said, resourceful players can trick them into knocking down their constructed pillars, which hide valuable pellets.

Grabcrabs

A curious, crustacean-like species that has a docile demeanor unless it is threatened. These creatures devote their lives to gathering objects and displaying them on their backs. If you offer them something they think is valuable, they might be willing to trade what they have stored with you.

Shroomlings

Another variant species of the Sproutling genus. Unlike Carrotlings, these creatures are usually reclusive and peaceful. However, the two species do not intermingle and will attack one another on sight.

This report only covers some of what the Wetlands have to offer. There’s no better way to learn about a Region than by exploration, so suit up and Feel the Force!
